Court remands 33yr-old husband for killing wife

The Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has ordered the remand of a 33-year-old man, Kabiru Arewa, in a correctional facility for allegedly killing his 24-year-old wife, Suliyat.

Arewa, whose address was not provided, faces a charge of murder. Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun did not accept Arewa’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.

Instead, he instructed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and scheduled the next hearing for June 28.

According to prosecutor ASP Anthony Igori, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on May 22 in the Olunloyo area of Ibadan.

Igori stated that Arewa caused his wife’s death by striking her on the chest with his fist.

This act is in violation of section 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
