Court remands alleged secret cult member in Ekiti

A chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti ordered the remand of Abbey Olorunfemi, a 36-year-old man accused of being a member of a secret cult on Friday.

Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso, who did not take Olorunfemi’s plea, directed his remand in a correctional center pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case has been adjourned until July 15 for mention.

Prosecutor Olasunkanmi Bamikole informed the court that Olorunfemi allegedly committed the offense on May 29 at 10:00 a.m. in Iworoko-Ekiti.

According to Bamikole, Olorunfemi was identified as a member of the Aiye Confraternity.

The prosecutor stated that the offense violates Section 41 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021 and urged the court to remand the defendant pending the DPP’s legal advice.
