Sales lady land in prison for using boss N.7m to play ‘Baba Ijebu’ lottery

A sales lady at Alaba International Market in Lagos State, Miss Odoabuchi Chioma, has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing N714,000 from her boss to stake on the ‘Baba Ijebu’ lottery, which she subsequently lost.

According to P.M.EXPRESS, Chioma was employed as a sales lady by Wisdom Sunday. The incident occurred at Alaba Market where Chioma, believing she had been informed of winning lottery numbers, used all the day’s sales proceeds to stake the lottery. She planned to refund the money if she won.

However, her plan failed, and when her boss discovered the missing funds, Chioma admitted to using the money for the lottery. The matter was reported to the Ojo Division police, leading to Chioma’s arrest and detention for interrogation, during which she confirmed her actions.

The police found her culpable and charged her before the Ojo Magistrate Court. Chioma pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu, requested a hearing date to present evidence proving the alleged offence.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs. A.M. Alade granted Chioma bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties, who must provide evidence of livelihood and tax payment, subject to court verification. The case was adjourned to July 30, 2024, for mention, and Chioma was remanded in custody pending the fulfillment of her bail conditions.
