Court sacks Thailand’s prime minister over political appointment

Thailand’s Constitutional Court  has ousted Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin from office.

Mr Thavisin was sacked on Wednesday.

Mr Thavisin, who assumed the role just over a year ago, was found to have breached constitutional, moral and ethical standards by appointing a close associate of his patron, Thaksin Shinawatra, to his cabinet.

Wednesday’s ruling could plunge the nation into renewed instability and further uncertainty over the political landscape of Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.
