Insecurity: Christian, Muslim leaders warn Tinubu of grave danger in Nigeria

The Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) has expressed grave concern over the alarming rise in insecurity across the country.

The group said this in a statement.

It acted under the leadership of Archbishop Daniel Okoh, president of the Christian Association of Nigeria and Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and president of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

NIREC noted several incidents that occurred within a short span, calling on the government to act quickly.

“The killing of 13 farmers in Shiroro LGA of Niger state, the abduction of 150 persons in Gobir District and the gruesome murder of the district head of Gatawa, both in Sokoto state.

“Also, the foiled bandit attacks in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina state. These are all things of concern,” it said.

It called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to eradicate these threats to public safety and ensure that citizens go about their daily lives without fear.

NIREC also extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the safe return of those still held captive.

It urged all Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility and not solely the government’s duty.

NIREC was established in 1999 to promote religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and good governance in Nigeria.

It remains committed to addressing the nation’s security challenges through dialogue and action.
