Edo election: Yiaga Africa, PDP urge INEC to resist rigging at collation centres

The prominent election monitoring organization Yiaga Africa, along with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has raised concerns about potential manipulation of the Edo State governorship election results at local government area, LGA, collation centers.

They are calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies to take action against these practices.

A PDP leader reported that rigging is reportedly occurring in the collation centers, particularly in Edo North.

Yiaga Africa, through a post on its verified X account, @YIAGA, noted that its observers at LGA centers have identified disruptions in the collation process, specifically in Oredo and Ikpoba/Okha.

It said: “Observers and INEC officials are being teargassed in Ikpoba/Okha. We want to emphasize that collating LGA results at the state headquarters violates the established procedure for results collation .

“We urge @inecnigeria to stand form against intimidation and interference. Electoral law permits accredited observers, media, and party agents to monitor results collaboration at all levels.

“Failure to address these issues risks undermining the legitimacy of what has been a peaceful process since it’s commencement.”
