The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to impounding vehicles with fake number plates, despite threats from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
In a statement on Wednesday, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized that the agency remains focused on ensuring road safety and security, vowing to carry out its duties without fear or favor.
Mohammed dismissed any attempts to intimidate the FRSC, stressing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme.
He responded to reports of threats from NANS, stating that the crackdown on fake number plates was necessary due to their increasing misuse by certain organizations and individuals attempting to bypass security measures.
Expressing disappointment, Mohammed questioned why Nigerian students—expected to uphold the law—would resort to threats against an enforcement agency. He urged NANS to reconsider its stance and withdraw its objections.
To reinforce this position, the FRSC has directed its officers nationwide to remain resolute against any form of intimidation, ensuring the enforcement of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme and contributing to the country’s overall security.
