Vice President of Philippines, Sara Duterte has been impeached by the House of Representatives on the last day of session on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
According to sources from inside the House of Representatives, 153 congressmen signed the impeachment complaint against Duterte. They said it will be formalized in the plenary on Wednesday.
Under the law, only 101 lawmakers are needed for the House to endorse the complaint to the Senate, where she will be tried.
Duterte is facing three impeachment complaints over misuse of public funds, culpable violation of the constitution, and betrayal of public trust.

He wrote, “However there are a few possible scenarios moving forward:
“1.Acquittal in the Senate – If fewer than two-thirds of the senators vote to convict, Sara Duterte will remain Vice President. This outcome would likely be seen as a political victory for her and her allies, but it could deepen divisions between her camp and the Marcos administration.
“2.Conviction and Removal – If two-thirds of the Senate votes to convict, she will be removed from office. The President will then appoint a new Vice President, subject to confirmation by Congress. This would mark a major shift in the country’s political landscape, potentially weakening the Duterte faction.
“3.Political Negotiations and Deals – Sometimes, impeachment proceedings don’t just play out legally but also politically. Duterte and her allies may negotiate behind the scenes to reach a compromise that prevents a full Senate trial or conviction.
“4.Public Response – If large numbers of people take to the streets in support of Duterte, the political pressure could influence senators’ decisions. Likewise, if there’s strong public support for her removal, it could push senators to convict”.
