The Edo State Government has announced the suspension of its Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, and the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Damian Lawani, due to allegations of serious official and financial misconduct.
In a statement released on Thursday morning in Benin, the State Secretary, Musa Ikhilor, confirmed that the suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
Ikhilor stated, “Governor Godwin Obaseki has approved the suspension of both officials over grave allegations of financial and official misconduct. The suspension takes immediate effect.”
He further explained that the governor has established an Investigative Committee to thoroughly examine the allegations and make appropriate recommendations based on its findings.
The suspension of Osagie and Lawani follows allegations of financial improprieties and is aimed at ensuring an impartial and comprehensive investigation.
The two officials were appointed to their positions less than three months ago.
