Lagos man arraigned for allegedly stealing N2.6m

A 24-year-old man, Moses Kalejaiye, was on Friday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing N2.6 million.

Kalejaiye, who is facing three charges related to conspiracy and theft, pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Ayodele Adeosun, the defendant and some accomplices—who are still at large—committed the crime on October 3 at No. 4 Agbeke Street, King George, Aradagun, Badagry.

Adeosun alleged that Kalejaiye broke into the apartment of the complainant, Tokenji Semako, and stole the money. However, he was caught by neighbors, who then handed him over to the police.

The prosecution stated that the offences violated Sections 287, 411, and 307 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates a two-year sentence for conspiracy.

Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties of equal amount. The case was adjourned until February 24 for mention.
