Police nab armed robbery, murder suspects in Lagos

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested several suspects linked to armed robbery, murder, and illegal possession of firearms in Lagos State, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, highlighting recent breakthroughs in crime-fighting operations across the state.

“As part of its commitment to strengthening national security and curbing crime across the nation, the Nigeria Police Force continues to implement proactive strategies to address criminal activities effectively.

These efforts reflect our determination to create a safer environment for all citizens while reinforcing public trust in the security apparatus.

The recent successful operations carried out by police operatives across the nation serve as a testament to this ongoing dedication to protecting lives and property,” Adejobi stated.

He revealed that operatives from the Satellite Division in Lagos apprehended a 24-year-old suspect, Wisdom Obi, during a routine patrol on February 7.

“The suspect was intercepted while riding an unregistered motorcycle at Abule Ado Bus Stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo Odofin.

Upon searching him, officers discovered a brownie pistol along with 13 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside an MP3 radio.

He was immediately taken into custody, and both the motorcycle and the recovered items were documented as exhibits. Investigations are ongoing,” he said.

In a separate incident on the same day, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division arrested four suspected traffic robbers who attempted to rob passengers from a broken-down vehicle in the Ascon White Sand area of Orile Iganmu.

“The suspects are currently in custody as investigations proceed.

The police urge citizens to exercise vigilance and be wary of traffic robbers, who often disguise themselves as innocent traders while targeting unsuspecting individuals trapped in traffic,” Adejobi warned.

Additionally, on February 5, officers from the Ikoyi Division responded to a violent altercation at Falomo Square, where a dispute between two men turned deadly.

“During a heated argument, one of the men allegedly drove his Lexus saloon car into the other, causing severe injuries.

The victim was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

A team of detectives visited the scene, and the deceased’s body was transferred to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy.

The suspect has been apprehended and remains in police custody pending further investigations and arraignment,” he disclosed.

Adejobi urged Nigerians to avoid violent confrontations and seek legal means to resolve disputes.

“Citizens must refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents while upholding the principles of justice,” he concluded.
