The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered that police officers must not carry assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire.
Speaking during a virtual meeting with senior police officers on February 10, 2025, the IGP emphasized the need for professionalism and discipline within the force. He warned tactical units against misconduct, stressing that all officers must be in proper uniform while on duty to uphold public confidence.
Egbetokun also issued a strong warning against human rights violations, stating that any officer found guilty of such infractions would face severe disciplinary action.
Furthermore, he prohibited the unauthorized transfer of cases without his direct approval, citing concerns over delayed justice and the hardship it imposes on affected individuals.
The IGP urged officers to uphold ethical standards and avoid any actions that could damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
He reaffirmed his commitment to implementing reforms aimed at improving law enforcement operations and strengthening public trust in the police.
