Another PDP lawmaker, Magaji defects to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost yet another representative in the House of Representatives to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Amos Magaji, who represents the Jaba/Zango Kataf Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, announced his defection, citing internal crises within the opposition party as his reason for leaving.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read Magaji’s resignation letter during Tuesday’s plenary session, where the lawmaker expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of the PDP.

“The lingering crises within the PDP, both at the national and state levels, have made it impossible for me to remain in the party,” Magaji stated.

His defection marks the third time a PDP lawmaker has switched to the APC since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, following the footsteps of Chris Nkwonta from Abia State and Eriatheke Ibori-Suenu from Delta State.

Reacting to the move, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda objected to Magaji’s defection and urged the Speaker to declare the seat vacant, referencing Section 68(1g) of the Nigerian Constitution.

Chinda argued that while lawmakers have the right to change party affiliation, the law also outlines specific consequences for such actions, including the forfeiture of their seat in the House.
