Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, has downplayed former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s recent criticisms of the Tinubu administration, stating that they are expressions of frustration rather than opposition politics.
El-Rufai, who was a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 election, has recently voiced concerns over the government’s direction, accusing it of straying from the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s campaign promises.
He even suggested that the party no longer resembles what it used to be.
While many speculate that his discontent stems from his unsuccessful ministerial screening, the former governor maintains that he would have spoken out even if he had been part of the government.
His recent engagements with opposition figures have also sparked speculation about a possible departure from the APC.
However, speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Bwala dismissed such claims, emphasizing that El-Rufai remains within the ruling party and is merely expressing his grievances.
“I don’t see Nasir El-Rufai’s remarks as opposition politics because he is still a member of the APC. That’s the key difference between my own criticism of the president after I left the party and when someone is still within the party and expressing dissatisfaction,” Bwala explained.
When asked if he agreed with El-Rufai’s criticisms, Bwala disagreed, pointing out that as governor, El-Rufai had similarly dismissed criticisms against his own administration.
“I believe his statements are simply a reflection of his frustrations,” Bwala concluded.
