UNIZIK student bites lecturer during dispute over TikTok video

Tension erupted at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, after a female student attacked and bit a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael, during a confrontation over a TikTok video.

The altercation reportedly began when the lecturer attempted to pass by while the student was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor. Witnesses said Michael tapped her lightly on the shoulder, saying, “Excuse me.” However, the student reacted angrily, accusing him of hitting her.

The situation quickly escalated, with the student grabbing the lecturer’s clothes aggressively. A viral video circulating online captured the moment she confronted him, while another clip showed the lecturer raising his hands in an attempt to de-escalate the situation as she held onto him.

Confirming the incident, UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, stated that the university had launched an internal investigation.

“Yes, we are aware of the situation. Investigations are ongoing, and the school will release an official statement once we conclude our findings,” he said.

According to Chukwurah, the lecturer claimed he overheard the student making disrespectful remarks about him after he passed by. When he returned to verify if she was his student, he noticed she was recording a TikTok video and requested that it be deleted to avoid appearing in it. This reportedly led to a confrontation, during which the student bit him on both arms.

Images circulating online show visible bite marks on the lecturer.

Further reports indicate that the student is a 300-level History and International Studies student and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department.

The university authorities are expected to take necessary disciplinary actions after concluding their investigation.
