PDP NWC overrules suspension of BoT chairman, Adolphus Wabara

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nullified the suspension of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, declaring it unconstitutional and invalid.

The Abia State Working Committee (SWC) had ratified Wabara’s suspension on Tuesday, following an initial decision by his ward executives. His suspension was linked to his endorsement of Abia State Governor Alex Otti for a second term, just five months into the governor’s administration in October 2023.

In a statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC emphasized that the suspension violated the party’s constitution and failed to follow due process.

“The NWC categorically dismisses the purported suspension as null and void and of no effect whatsoever, as it is inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and the laid-down rules of our great party,” the statement read.

Ologunagba further stressed that no state working committee has the authority to suspend or discipline a member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) without consulting the NWC, as stated in Section 57 (7) of the PDP Constitution.

With this ruling, Wabara remains the Chairman of the PDP BoT, and his suspension by the Abia State chapter is effectively overruled.
