Amotekun rescues 16 women, girls from human traffickers

The Ogun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has rescued 16 women and girls who were allegedly trafficked and forced into prostitution.

Speaking in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Amotekun Commander Alade Adedigba revealed that the victims were rescued following an intelligence report that led operatives to the Rail Line Hotel in Ifo, Ogun State.

According to Adedigba, the victims, aged between 12 and 27, were mostly teenagers. Fourteen of them were from Akwa Ibom, while the remaining two were from Cross River and Delta states. They were found in the custody of their alleged handler, Idem Joy, who was also paraded.

During the operation, Amotekun operatives recovered N819,600 from the suspect. The hotel where the victims were kept is owned by Yemisi Oguntoro, who is currently on the run.

“Some of the victims disclosed that they were forced to take an oath while naked, using holy books, vowing never to expose their ordeal or attempt to escape,” Adedigba stated.

He commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his dedication to security and the welfare of residents, emphasizing that Ogun State would not be a safe haven for criminals.

The case is set to be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and necessary action.
