Ewaoche Obe appointed chairman of Echija Central Planning C’tee

Otukpo, Benue – The Board of Echija has appointed Chief Benjamin Ewaoche Obe, popularly known as Peblow, as the Chairman of the Echija Central Planning Committee for the 2025-2026 tenure. He takes over from the immediate past chairman, Peter Ocheikwu, alias Petoto, in accordance with the Echija tradition, which mandates a leadership rotation among board members every two years.

Chief Obe, a pioneer member of Echija (popular annual festival in Otukpo), brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics; a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and is a certified Conflict Analyst and Mediator from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, Ghana. Additionally, he has completed various professional courses in conflict resolution from the American Institute for Peace.

Born into the distinguished Obe family, he is the son of the late Chief Dr. Obe, fondly known as “Ikpoere,” a revered figure in medical services within the Idoma Kingdom and beyond.

Chief Obe has also made a mark in politics, having been the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections. He also served as Supervisory Councillor for Revenue and later Health in Otukpo Local Government.

His career spans various leadership and administrative roles, including positions at the National Assembly, Peace Corps of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Additionally, he worked with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company and has been actively involved in several organizations.

Beyond his professional and political achievements, Chief Obe is a former Nigerian handball international who played professionally across Africa and Europe. He has also contributed to the sport as a coach and referee and remains dedicated to youth and sports development.

Known for his humility, leadership qualities, and passion for community service, Chief Obe’s appointment is widely celebrated. Many believe his diverse experience and commitment to excellence will further enrich the Echija brand and enhance its legacy.
