Mother, two children killed in Ondo fire incident

A devastating fire in Ondo State on Sunday night claimed the lives of a mother and her two children. The incident occurred at Rainbow Street, near Onipakala Junction off Adeyemi Road in the Ondo West Local Government Area.

A family member, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed on Monday that the victims were burnt beyond recognition in the fire, which raged for several hours. The victims were identified as the mother, a petty trader, and her two children—16-year-old Bukola and 11-year-old Ife.

The family source also mentioned that the blaze completely destroyed the building where the victims were trapped. Despite the efforts of neighbors to help, the fire continued unchecked as the local Fire Service failed to respond.

“We contacted the fire service when the fire started, but they informed us that there was no water or chemicals available. Shockingly, the officer then turned off his phone,” the source said.

CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the Ondo State police public relations officer, confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies of the victims had been taken to the morgue.

Meanwhile, Bimbola Araroba, the chief fire officer of Ondo State, told reporters that he could not confirm the incident and suggested that only the officer in charge of the area could provide details.
