Police deny connection to viral video of gunrunner’s arrest

The Gombe State Police Command has responded to the circulation of a viral video showing the arrest of a suspected gunrunner, clarifying that the incident did not occur within their jurisdiction.

In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police refuted claims that the arrest took place in Gombe.

Abdullahi explained that the location mentioned in the video, Royal Hotel Tunfure near Zuma, is outside of Gombe State.

The viral video shows a suspect lying on the ground surrounded by a large display of weapons, which were apparently confiscated during the arrest.

The suspect is being paraded by police officers at what appears to be a police station.

Abdullahi further clarified, “We would like to inform the public that the incident in the video did not occur in Gombe State. The arrest took place elsewhere, not within the Gombe Police Command’s jurisdiction.”

He urged the public to disregard any associations made between the video and the Gombe State Police, assuring them that the command remains dedicated to maintaining law and order within the state.

The video, which was obtained by Arewa PUNCH, featured an unidentified senior police officer who claimed that the arrested suspect was a Fulani man, previously employed as an Immigration officer before being dismissed.

The officer alleged the suspect was involved in gunrunning activities in the area.

The officer also revealed that, after working with informants, they recovered a substantial cache of weapons, including AK-47 magazines, CZ scorpion magazines, rifles, and pistols in the Zuma region.
