Osun Electoral Commission chairman decries police sealing of headquarters

The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has raised concerns over the sealing of the commission’s headquarters by the police on Saturday.

The incident occurred as the state proceeded with the controversial local government elections despite warnings from security agencies.

Speaking on a live program on Rave FM, Abioye expressed surprise over the police action, stating, “I leave the Inspector General of Police in the hands of God. Elections are ongoing across polling units in the state, but reports indicate an absence of police presence.”

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke cast his vote in Ede and urged residents to remain calm and peaceful during the exercise.

The police had earlier advised the Osun State Government against conducting the election, citing security risks and potential legal issues.

However, the state electoral body proceeded with the polls despite the warning.
