Three arrested for homicide, criminal conspiracy in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three individuals for their alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

According to PUNCH, Police spokesperson SP Shiisu Adam confirmed in a statement from Dutse on Saturday that the suspects—Mallam Adamu Aliyu, 30; Mallam Mukhtar Abdulmumin, 37; and Mallam Nafiu Ibrahim, 80—were apprehended on February 8, 2025, in Illela town, Sokoto State.

Investigations revealed that the suspects conspired to deceive and extort N400,000 from 19-year-old Ahmad Abdullahi. When the victim demanded his money, they allegedly lured him to a river in Hadejia town, strangled him, and disposed of his body in the water before fleeing to Niger Republic. They were later arrested and returned to Jigawa State for prosecution.

Adam assured that justice would be served, adding that the case has been charged to court.

In a separate incident, the police arrested Ahmed Habibu, 18, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth N600,000. The suspect was apprehended on February 24, 2025, with the stolen motorcycle in his possession.

Additionally, law enforcement officers arrested Manniru Yusuf, 30, for attempting to commit culpable homicide. Yusuf was reportedly caught trying to shoot 50-year-old Ramma Sule with a locally made pistol.

Meanwhile, police recovered two locally made rifles, three AK-47 live rounds, N36,000 in cash, and a quantity of rice from a group of suspected armed robbers. The suspects abandoned the items and fled when confronted by a police patrol team in Bariki Quarters, Hadejia. Efforts are ongoing to track them down.

The police urged the public to continue supporting their fight against crime to ensure the safety of communities.
