Kidnapped female students regain freedom in Benue

Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of three female students who were abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) first reported their release in a news update shared on 𝕏 on Thursday.

Recall that the students had been kidnapped on February 25, 2025, while returning from a night study session on campus.

Following the abduction, the Nigeria Police assured the public that efforts were underway to rescue all four students taken from the university.

Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi reaffirmed this commitment in a statement issued on February 27, 2025.

In response to security concerns, the university management declared a one-week mid-semester break.

This was communicated through an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” which was released the day after the abduction and signed by the Registrar, Dr. John David.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, had previously urged authorities to intensify efforts to secure the students’ safe return.
