Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing differences between his personal values and the party’s current direction.
In response, SDP’s former presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, welcomed El-Rufai, expressing optimism that his entry into the party signals renewed hope for Nigerians.
Taking to his X account shortly after El-Rufai’s defection, Adebayo emphasized the need for committed leaders to work together in liberating the country.
“On behalf of the dedicated members of SDP and patriotic Nigerians who believe in the nation’s potential for greatness, I warmly welcome my brother, El-Rufai, to our party,” Adebayo stated.
He described the former governor as a hardworking and strategic leader whose addition to the party strengthens the fight against poverty and insecurity.
Adebayo further affirmed that SDP leaders would remain committed to ethical governance, following the party’s constitution and manifesto to set a positive example for Nigeria and Africa.
“Good politics leads to good governance. It is time for everyone to take a stand—there is no room for sitting on the fence. Join us in this movement. God bless Nigeria,” he concluded.
