British man dies after being hit by vehicle in Kenyan Presidential convoy

A British national, Edgar Charles Frederick, lost his life in a hit-and-run incident involving a support vehicle in Kenyan President William Ruto’s motorcade.

The 79-year-old was in Nairobi visiting family when he was struck on a busy road on Thursday. According to Kenyan police, the driver failed to stop but was later taken into custody.

Michael Muchiri, a spokesperson for the police, confirmed that Frederick had traveled to Kenya to see his sister and nephew. His next of kin have been informed, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday.

Footage shared on social media shows the victim lying on the road, bleeding, while other images depict his body covered with a traditional Maasai Shuka.

Authorities identified the vehicle as part of the regional administration’s support team for the presidential convoy. Although President Ruto was in the vicinity for public engagements, his direct involvement remains unclear.

The UK High Commission in Kenya acknowledged the incident and is gathering more details. Meanwhile, Kenyan police have assured that the driver will face legal action following the completion of investigations.
