Police officer arrested over deadly stabbing in Abuja

A police officer attached to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man to death during a confrontation in Nyanya.

Sources quoted by Zagazola Makama identified the officer as ASP Sunday Alabi, who was responding to a burglary report on Thursday at approximately 9:15 p.m. when the incident took place.

While attempting to detain a suspect, Alabi was met with resistance from a crowd that questioned the validity of the complaint.

In the ensuing commotion, he allegedly stabbed 35-year-old Clement Itom in the chest before retreating to his station.

Itom was rushed to Nyanya General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

A bloodstained jackknife was recovered from the scene as part of the investigation.

Alabi is currently in detention, with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) handling the case.

The police have assured the public of a thorough inquiry into the matter.
