Operatives of the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested popular TikTok influencer, Murja Ibrahim Kunya, for allegedly abusing and mutilating the Naira.
Kunya was apprehended for reportedly spraying Naira notes for entertainment during her stay at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano.
Her arrest came after she allegedly jumped administrative bail granted to her by the EFCC over a month ago.
Initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Naira, Kunya was granted administrative bail pending her arraignment before the Federal High Court in Kano.
However, she failed to appear in court, prompting a manhunt by EFCC operatives.
Following weeks of investigation and surveillance, the EFCC successfully re-arrested her on Sunday, March 16, 2025. She is currently in custody at the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Commission, awaiting arraignment.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to upholding laws that protect the integrity of the Naira and warned against acts such as spraying, stamping, or mutilating the currency during social events.
