Obi decries alleged intimidation of NYSC member over criticism of govt

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned reports of threats against Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, following her viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Uguamaye, popularly known as Raye, had publicly expressed frustration over Nigeria’s worsening economic situation.

However, after her remarks gained traction online, she alleged that NYSC officials began threatening her.

Addressing the issue on X, Obi said he had also been targeted for offering constructive feedback on government policies.

He described the situation as a disturbing sign of democratic decline.

“I, too, have been subjected to threats, harassment, and name-calling simply for sharing solution-based perspectives on governance,” Obi stated.

He argued that a government that stifles criticism lacks accountability and is often corrupt.

He urged leaders to embrace opposing views and recognize constructive criticism as an essential element of a thriving democracy.
