Anambra 2025: Soludo expresses confidence in re-election bid, says no serious rival in sight

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed strong confidence ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election, saying he does not see any formidable opposition to his re-election.

Speaking on the upcoming poll, Soludo said he is yet to identify any candidate capable of posing a serious challenge.

According to him, the people of Anambra widely acknowledge the performance of his administration under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which he believes positions the party for another term in office.

He noted that although voters in Anambra may support different parties during national elections, they consistently return to APGA when it comes to state and local government contests.

“If there is an election—and there will be—and I happen to be on the ballot, I ask: who else is running? Which party is presenting a candidate? So far, unless someone descends from the skies, I haven’t seen anyone,” he remarked.

Soludo also revealed that many have encouraged him to pursue a second term, though he emphasized that the final decision lies with his party.

“The party must first approve and offer me the platform.

I applied for this role with a sense of purpose—to serve and give back in gratitude for God’s blessings, by improving the lives of our people and leaving a lasting legacy,” he said.

“If APGA nominates me and the people of Anambra choose to renew my mandate, it would be an honour and privilege to continue serving.”

Anambra is one of eight Nigerian states where governorship elections are conducted off the general election cycle, following past court rulings.
