Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a 30-day suspension of attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following a discussion with former U.S. President Donald Trump, the Kremlin announced on Tuesday.
The decision is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the war.
According to the Kremlin, Putin and Trump engaged in a “detailed and frank” conversation about the situation.
However, Putin set several conditions for further progress, including an end to Ukraine’s forced mobilization efforts and the continued supply of weapons to its military.
He also raised concerns about how a ceasefire would be monitored effectively.
Trump suggested the temporary halt on energy strikes, to which Putin responded positively, immediately directing the Russian military to comply, the statement said.
Beyond the suspension of strikes, both sides agreed to a prisoner exchange, with Ukraine and Russia set to swap 175 detainees each.
Putin reiterated that a long-term resolution to the war would only be possible if Western nations stopped providing military aid and intelligence support to Ukraine.
The Kremlin emphasized that cutting off foreign assistance to Kyiv was essential to preventing further escalation and achieving a diplomatic resolution.
