Rivers police probe fire at Shell-operated pipeline, two arrested

The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into a fire incident at the Shell Petroleum Development Company’s (SPDC) Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, confirming that two individuals have been detained for questioning.

Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko stated on Tuesday that the fire was first noticed by a surveillance team on Monday night.

Officers on patrol promptly alerted SPDC, leading to immediate safety measures, including shutting down the affected pipeline.

While authorities have confirmed that the fire is now under control, Iringe-Koko did not clarify whether it was triggered by an explosion, an oil spill, or possible militant activity.

The police have assured residents that there is no further threat to public safety.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire, with law enforcement vowing to bring any perpetrators to justice.
