The Director of Lands in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chijioke Nwankwoeze, has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that two of its properties were deliberately revoked.
Addressing journalists, Nwankwoeze clarified that of the 4,974 revoked land titles, only one—Plot Number 243 in the Central Area—was owned by the PDP. He further explained that the second property, which serves as the party’s secretariat, actually belongs to Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, who purchased it from Wadata Enterprises Nigeria Limited.
Providing details on the affected PDP property, Nwankwoeze revealed that it had an outstanding ground rent of ₦7.6 million accrued over 20 years. He also noted that Senator Kurfi owed ₦2.8 million in ground rent for his property, Plot No. 1970, Wuse I (Wadata Plaza), spanning 28 years.
The lands director emphasized that the revocation was widespread, affecting numerous government agencies, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), as well as the governments of Borno and Kaduna States. Other institutions on the list included the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and National Universities Commission (NUC).
Additional affected entities comprised the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, University of Calabar, Nigerian Postal Service, and the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Nwankwoeze stressed that, beyond government institutions, thousands of private organizations and individuals were also impacted by the land revocation exercise.
