Gov Fubara exits Rivers govt house amid political turmoil

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reportedly vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt along with his family and security personnel.

The political crisis in the state escalated on Tuesday following President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency and the subsequent suspension of Fubara and his deputy.

A reliable source, who requested anonymity, confirmed that Fubara departed the premises on Wednesday, with security presence in the area notably reduced.

Despite the development, two Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) that were deployed outside the Government House on Tuesday night remained stationed there, accompanied by a limited number of security officers.

Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.), whom Tinubu appointed to oversee the state’s administration, had yet to assume office as of 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the suspension of Fubara has sparked widespread criticism, with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, condemning the action as unconstitutional and reckless.
