Former Deputy Speaker of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Jiwa Ward Councillor, Hon. Yunusa Dantani Sarki, has officially declared his intention to contest for the chairmanship of AMAC under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sarki, who previously served as a Supervisory Councillor and Special Adviser, made his declaration at the APC local government secretariat in Wuse, Abuja, on Thursday. He emphasized that his candidacy is driven by a commitment to leveraging his experience to foster development in the council and position it on the global economic map.
Addressing party members and supporters, he expressed concern over divisions within the party and the council, vowing to unite APC stakeholders, as well as both indigenes and non-indigenes, if elected.
He stressed that unity is essential for meaningful progress, stating, “Development cannot take place where there is no unity.”
Outlining his agenda, Sarki highlighted key focus areas including agriculture, healthcare, education, human capital development, infrastructure, and the empowerment of youths, women, and the elderly. He lamented the underutilization of agricultural resources in AMAC, particularly the Karasana farms, which he said could be revitalized to boost food production and affordability.
He also criticized the lack of adequate medical equipment and personnel in existing health centers, pledging to collaborate with foreign organizations and NGOs to improve healthcare services. Additionally, he promised to enhance education, promote human capital development, and prioritize infrastructural expansion to open up rural areas for growth.
“One of our major problems in AMAC is disunity. When there is no unity, there is no development. My goal is to bridge the gap between indigenes and non-indigenes, young and old, men and women.
APC in AMAC is divided, and we need a unifying platform. This is why I have offered myself for the job—to bring the party together and foster development in the council,” Sarki stated.
He urged party executives to ensure a transparent primary election, affirming that he has the right credentials and experience to lead the party to victory.
In response, the APC AMAC Chairman, Alhaji Murthar Abubakar, commended Sarki for visiting the secretariat and wished him success in his political ambition.
