Security forces under the Nigerian Army’s Sector 2 have successfully neutralized 10 terrorists and freed 101 kidnapped victims in operations across Kankara in Katsina State and Shinkafi in Zamfara State.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Gusau, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, detailed the operation’s success.The offensive, conducted in collaboration with the Air Component of the Joint Task Force, took place between March 17 and 18, 2025.
The mission began in Katsina State, where troops launched an assault on a terrorist hideout at Pauwa High Ground in Kankara Local Government Area.
During the operation, three terrorists were eliminated, and 84 kidnapped individuals were freed. The rescued victims were handed over to local authorities for necessary care and reintegration.
In a separate operation in Zamfara, the troops responded to intelligence about terrorist activity in the Bagabuzu area of Faru District, Maradun LGA. The engagement led to the deaths of seven terrorists and the seizure of a motorcycle, among other recovered items.
Additionally, security forces successfully rescued 17 hostages from Tsibiri and Doka villages in Shinkafi LGA. The freed individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Lt. Col. Abdullahi reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to maintaining security in Katsina and Zamfara states.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative, emphasizing that community support is crucial in combating terrorism in the region.
