FG partners Defence Ministry to boost military hardware production

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to produce military equipment locally to strengthen the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Shuaibu Abubakar-Audu, the Minister of Steel Development, disclosed this on March 20, 2025, during his visit to the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency in Kaduna.

He stated that his ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to implement the project.

Abubakar-Audu revealed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been prepared and submitted to DICON for review before seeking the president’s approval.

He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to revamp the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

The plan includes incorporating military hardware production into the facility to lay the foundation for a military-industrial complex in Nigeria.
