Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate reinforcement of security personnel and resources in Rivers State to ensure the protection of lives, property, and key infrastructure.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced this in a statement on Thursday, explaining that the deployment will be coordinated with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to maintain law and order.
Egbetokun stressed that while citizens have the right to seek legal remedies, any unlawful demonstrations or actions that threaten public peace will be met with strict enforcement of the law.
“The Nigeria Police Force urges individuals to pursue grievances through legal means. Any attempt to disrupt public order through unlawful activities will face serious consequences,” the statement read.
Residents have been advised to remain peaceful and continue their daily activities without concern, as security agencies are committed to maintaining stability.
Authorities also encouraged the public to report any suspicious movements, warning that those attempting to instigate unrest will be dealt with accordingly.
This follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
As part of this decision, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly for six months, appointing Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd) as the Sole Administrator of the state.
