Kano Gov grants automatic employment to 54 health graduates

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has granted automatic employment to 54 postgraduate students who recently returned from India after completing advanced studies in various health-related fields.

During a special reception and Iftar (Ramadan breaking of fast) held in their honor on Friday, Governor Yusuf announced that the graduates would be immediately absorbed into the Kano State Civil Service to enhance the state’s healthcare system.

The scholars, who studied at Symbiosis International University in Pune, India, were beneficiaries of the state-sponsored foreign scholarship program.

The governor assured them that all necessary arrangements had been made for their employment, and appointment letters would soon be issued through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Head of Service.

Governor Yusuf urged the graduates to utilize their expertise to improve healthcare, particularly in reducing maternal mortality and treating sickle cell anemia.

He also encouraged them to remain in Kano and contribute to the state’s development rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to human capital development, Yusuf pledged to continue the foreign scholarship initiative launched by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He revealed that out of 1,000 sponsored students, 418 had already completed their studies in India and Uganda, with 68 more expected to return from India by April.

Among the newly employed professionals are 36 medical doctors—including two veterinary doctors—alongside 11 pharmacists, two anatomists, and one radiographer.

Kabiru Getso, Executive Secretary of the Kano State Scholarship Board, hailed the graduates’ training as a significant milestone, emphasizing that some of the specialized courses they studied were the first of their kind in Kano and Northern Nigeria.

He added that their expertise would play a vital role in strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
