Two injured as customs officers clash with youths in Adamawa

A confrontation between local youths and a patrol team from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State resulted in two individuals sustaining gunshot wounds after security operatives fired shots to disperse a crowd.

According to intelligence sources cited by Zagazola Makama, the incident unfolded around 4:00 a.m. on Friday when customs officials intercepted a vehicle attempting to smuggle fuel into Cameroon at Wuro Manu Malabu.

On their way back from the operation, the officers encountered a blockade set up by youths in Kilange Village, who were attempting to reclaim the confiscated vehicle.

As tensions escalated, customs operatives fired warning shots, but stray bullets struck two men—30-year-old Abdulkarim Maikanti and 25-year-old Yauba Babai, both Cameroonian residents.

The injured were immediately transported to Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola, for medical treatment.

In response, authorities have visited the site, and plans are underway to engage local stakeholders in discussions aimed at discouraging youths from interfering with law enforcement activities.
