Wike working for Nigeria, not APC – PDP leader

Dan Orbih, the South-South National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed suggestions that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is working for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, Wike is serving Nigeria and not any political party.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Orbih explained that Wike had received approval from key PDP structures before accepting the ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“Wike is not serving APC; he is working for the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Orbih stated.

He noted that Wike had formally written to the PDP’s South-South zonal leadership, which met in Port Harcourt and unanimously supported his appointment as a national service.

Additionally, the Rivers State chapter, along with his ward and local government party organs, also endorsed his decision.

“No section of the party rejected his appointment. Even the PDP Governors’ Forum sent a delegation to congratulate him after their first meeting,” he added.

Orbih stressed the importance of political parties handling their members with care, arguing that Wike’s involvement in the administration should not be controversial.

“When he was invited to serve, he notified every major structure of the PDP, including the Board of Trustees, which later visited him at his official residence, and none of them opposed it,” he said.

He also emphasized that political differences should not dictate personal relationships, reaffirming his friendship with Wike.

“At my age, no political party can decide who I associate with. My friendship with Nyesom Wike, a committed and hardworking individual, remains unshaken,” Orbih concluded.
