IPAC raises alarm over impending crisis in Benue amid Rivers emergency rule

Ibrahim Idoko, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Benue State, has urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to remain vigilant against attempts to create unrest that could justify a state of emergency in the state.

Speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Makurdi organized by the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria, Idoko voiced this concerns.

He revealed that some individuals were working behind the scenes to engineer chaos in Benue, mirroring recent events in Rivers State.

He strongly criticized the federal government’s decision to impose a state of emergency in Rivers, calling it a troubling development for Nigeria’s democracy.

He warned that similar forces might be at play in Benue, urging the governor to take swift action to prevent any crisis.

“There are people in Benue considering similar moves. I have credible information about this. Some are actively working towards it. However, I trust Governor Alia to make the right decisions to ensure stability in the state,” he said.

He further emphasized that political stability should be maintained at all costs to avoid plunging the state into an unnecessary crisis.

Idoko also expressed disappointment in President Tinubu’s handling of the Rivers State crisis, warning that such actions could embolden military officers and weaken democratic governance.

“I never imagined that our democracy would reach this point. It is alarming that the President would take sides in such a manner. This kind of decision could plant dangerous ideas in the minds of military officers,” he cautioned.
