Police operatives in Nasarawa State have arrested a suspected armed robber after he and his gang carried out an attack in Keffi. The arrest followed a tragic accident that occurred as the criminals attempted to escape.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the state police command, Ramhan Nansel, officers from the Goshen City Division responded to a distress call regarding an armed robbery at a residential area behind the stadium in Keffi.
The report, received around 3:00 a.m. on March 25, prompted the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, to order a swift response to track down the fleeing suspects.
The robbers, who had stolen a vehicle at gunpoint, met their downfall when the car crashed at Bola Junction along the Keffi-Abuja Expressway as they tried to evade arrest.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found five occupants in the stolen Toyota Camry with registration number ABC 621 CV.
They were immediately taken to Johepz Medical Centre in Kuchikau for emergency treatment. However, four of them were confirmed dead, while the sole survivor, identified as Hussaini Mohammed, 25, from Uke, was arrested and remains under police watch while receiving medical care.
Investigations confirmed that the stolen vehicle belonged to Udochi Emeka, a resident of the targeted area in Keffi.
A search of the crash site led to the recovery of several items, including assorted charms, two long knives, screwdrivers, twelve mobile phones of different brands, multiple wristwatches, and an Access Bank ATM card belonging to Lydia Olabode Kemi.
The Commissioner of Police has directed officers to intensify their efforts against criminal activities, assuring residents of continued security operations.
He urged the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
