NYSC Coordinator asks female Corps members to return home after service

The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has advised female corps members to return to their parents after completing their service instead of moving in with their boyfriends.

She gave this advice on Thursday in Bauchi during the certificate distribution ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members, stressing the importance of celebrating this achievement with family.

“Your boyfriends are not your parents,” she cautioned. “Once you collect your certificates, go home and celebrate with your family.”

Yakubu also encouraged corps members to take advantage of the skills they acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to secure their future.

“If you haven’t fully benefited from SAED, there is still time. Instead of staying idle, find something worthwhile to do. Use your final allowance wisely—consider investing in a trade or skill,” she advised.

She further warned against involvement in criminal activities such as internet fraud, kidnapping, and ritual killings, urging them to uphold the values instilled by NYSC.

“These are not the principles the NYSC has taught you. Be responsible, represent your family well, and uphold the good name of your institution and the NYSC,” she added.

Yakubu also reminded corps members to carefully verify their National Service certificates for any errors before laminating them.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a total of 1,652 corps members completed their service in Bauchi State, consisting of 1,118 males and 534 females.
