The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has raised concerns over a planned procession by the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) on Friday, March 28, 2025, warning that it could lead to a breach of peace in parts of the country.
According to intelligence reports, IMN members intend to march in Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in commemoration of International Quds Day, an event observed to show solidarity with Palestinians.
The movement, led by Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky, is believed to be using the occasion to criticize the Nigerian government.
“Available information indicates that IMN members from Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, and Plateau States have already started gathering at their camp in Rugan Juli, Karu, ahead of the planned procession in the FCT,” the security advisory stated.
Authorities fear that the march could escalate into protests against U.S. and Israeli interests in northern states, including Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Yobe, Adamawa, and Sokoto.
“Given the violent disposition of the Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky-led IMN, there are indications that elements within the group may exploit the mass procession to stage demonstrations against the United States and Israel across multiple northern states,” the advisory warned.
Security agencies have been urged to closely monitor IMN activities and reinforce security around the U.S. and Israeli embassies in Lagos and Abuja, as well as assets linked to their nationals across the country.
“It is imperative to ensure adequate security deployment before, during, and after the planned procession to prevent possible violent protests against U.S. and Israeli interests,” the ONSA emphasized.
The advisory concluded by calling for proactive security measures to mitigate potential disruptions and ensure public safety during the event.
