Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has condemned the brutal killing of Northern travellers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, urging security agencies to swiftly track down and prosecute those responsible.
The victims, mostly Hausa hunters, were reportedly stopped by a mob while travelling to Kano for Sallah celebrations. Their vehicle was searched before they were gruesomely murdered.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau decried the act as “barbaric, inhumane, and unacceptable,” calling on the Edo State Police Command and other security agencies to take decisive action.
“I have received numerous calls from my constituents and concerned Nigerians regarding this horrific incident. I strongly condemn the senseless killing of innocent Nigerians,” he stated.
The Deputy Senate President also disclosed plans to sponsor a motion in the Senate to ensure that justice is served.
“Our security agencies must act without delay to apprehend the culprits and ensure they face the full consequences of their actions. Nigeria is a diverse nation, and we must embrace unity and coexistence for the sake of national development,” Barau emphasized.
He prayed for the souls of the victims and urged their families to remain patient, assuring them that the government would ensure justice prevails.
