UEFA launches investigation into Real Madrid players’ celebrations

Four Real Madrid players are under investigation by UEFA for alleged “indecent conduct” during their Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid.

The investigation stems from the players’ celebrations after winning the penalty shootout in the Round of 16 match at Atletico’s Metropolitano Stadium on March 12.

Atletico Madrid submitted videos of the Real Madrid players’ behavior to UEFA, which has appointed an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to investigate the allegations.

The players under investigation are Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, Daniel Ceballos Fernandez, and Vinicius Junior. Rudiger is accused of making a throat-slitting gesture to Atletico supporters, while Mbappe is alleged to have made an obscene gesture by grabbing his groin.

The outcome of the investigation could result in fines or suspensions for the players if found guilty. Real Madrid is set to face Arsenal in the quarterfinals, but it remains to be seen if the investigation will impact the team’s lineup.
