Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Barcelona regained their three-point lead at the top of La Liga with a convincing 4-1 win over Girona at the Olympic Stadium.
Barcelona took the lead in the first half through Ladislav Krejci’s own goal, but Girona’s Arnaut Danjuma equalized early in the second half. However, Lewandowski put Barcelona back ahead with an impressive finish just after the hour mark, and he sealed his 25th league goal of the season with a fine strike following a sublime assist from Frenkie de Jong.
Ferran Torres added a late fourth goal to round off the scoring and secure Barcelona’s ninth consecutive La Liga victory. This win was a timely response to Real Madrid’s comeback victory over Leganes on Saturday, which had momentarily levelled the two teams on points.
With their confidence boosted, Barcelona will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid, with the tie delicately poised at 4-4.
