Customs officer killed, one abducted in Kebbi

Gunmen have attacked the Koko base in Kebbi State, resulting in the death of one Customs officer and the abduction of another.

According to a statement from Muhammad Salisu, Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, the gunmen followed the anti-smuggling squad to their base at Koko, where they destroyed facilities, killed Officer Dabo Umar, and abducted Officer Babagana Kabiru.

The remains of Officer Umar have been recovered and transported to Kaduna for Islamic burial.

Comptroller Earnest Iheanacho of the Kebbi State Command expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and announced that a manhunt is underway to rescue the kidnapped officer.

He said: “We will not be deterred or forced by fear to abandon the patrol or the borders. Our resolve to stem smuggle at all costs is unwavering despite threats by disgruntled elements.”

While, the rescue operations continues, the command pledged to provide updates and charged officers at the borders to continue to exhibit high sense of professionalism and always use available safety nets during operations.
