The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ondo State chapter, has decided to suspend its four-day-old indefinite strike.
In a statement released on Monday in Akure, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Lucky Aremu, announced that the strike would be called off following successful discussions with the state government, which resulted in commitments to meet the nurses’ demands.
Aremu explained, “The NANNM is halting the industrial action across all state public health institutions after a series of negotiations with the Ondo State Government, who have assured us that they will address our concerns.”
The union’s demands included better pay, improved welfare, resolution of conversion issues, and enhanced working conditions.
Aremu also praised the determination and solidarity shown by the union members throughout the strike, thanking them for their collective efforts. He expressed appreciation for the understanding and patience of the public during this period.
He urged all nurses and midwives working in state-run health facilities to return to their posts on Tuesday, but warned that the association would remain vigilant to ensure that the government honors its promises.
“While we are suspending the strike, we will monitor the situation closely and take further action if the government fails to fulfill its commitments,” he stated.
