The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ondo State chapter, has decided to end its four-day indefinite strike after successful negotiations with the state government.
In a statement issued on Monday in Akure, NANNM’s Public Relations Officer, Lucky Aremu, announced the suspension of the strike, following assurances from the government that the nurses’ demands would be addressed.
Aremu explained, The NANNM has called off the industrial action at all state-run health facilities after discussions with the Ondo State Government, who have committed to resolving our concerns.
The nurses’ key demands included improved salaries, better welfare, resolution of conversion issues, and better working conditions.
He also acknowledged the dedication and unity of the union members during the strike and thanked the public for their patience.
Aremu urged all nurses and midwives in state-run health facilities to resume work on Tuesday but emphasized that the association would stay vigilant to ensure the government keeps its promises.
We are suspending the strike for now, but we will closely monitor the situation and take necessary action if the government fails to meet it’s commitments
